Bayou Classic is a popular outdoor equipment supplier. They focus on a wide range of outdoor food grade utilities. Their products range from coolers, cookers, fryers, camping, and home brew supplies.
Similar to Northern Brewer, Bayou Classic also offers a wide range of home brew supplies. Their product line includes brew kettles, mash tuns, burners, and all relevant accessories. The Bayou Classic Brew Kettle combines some of their quality products into one convenient package.
General features of product
The Bayou Classic Brew Kettle is a 16-gallon high quality brew kettle. It combines many different features to bring you an efficient and convenient brew experience. This kettle is perfect for bag brewing methods but it also doubles as a mash tun which you need for all-grain systems.
The stainless steel kettle has attached handles for easy transport and a try-ply bottom. The try-ply bottom helps to disperse heat, reduce scorching, and contributes to a healthy boil.
Additional to the kettle is a false bottom. This allows you to separate grain from the wort when you transfer liquid. The false bottom is also made of stainless steel and can be removed for easy cleaning.
Below the false bottom is a ball valve and exterior spigot. The stainless steel spigot is appropriately placed below the grains and includes an additional interior screen to guarantee a clean transfer.
Above the Spigot is a thermometer and large faced dial. The thermometer reads in Fahrenheit and ranges between 60 and 220 degrees. This is a good placement for a thermometer because it provides a better average temperature than surface temperatures can deliver. It can also be removed for easy cleaning.
This brew kettle also has quart and gallon measurements etched onto the inside wall. Finished with a lid and tapered lip, Bayou Classic’s Brew Kettle is the complete package and will serve all of your home brewing needs.
- False Bottom
- Triple Layer Bottom
- Spigot and Spigot Screen
This brew kettle is not as well tuned as Blichmann’s BoilerMaker. The placement of the spigot is a little too high and you may consider picking up a dip tube to make sure you are able to get the entire brew out.
Also, the on board thermometer does not calibrate very well. It will definitely get the job done but it may give readings that are a few degrees off. This may not be a huge issue unless you are trying to regulate a very specific temp.
The additional features are definitely a plus if you intend on brewing all-grain. But If you are only looking for a brew kettle, I would recommend looking into something like Northern Brewer’s Tall Boy.
The additional features are nice and it makes for a very versatile kettle. It can be used for extract, hybrid, or all-grain brewing. However, I’m not totally convinced they are worth the price tag.
With that being said, the actual kettle design is of high quality and manufacturing. It will last a lifetime and you won’t ever have an issue getting something to a boil. Overall, it is an awesome brew kettle and I would recommend it for most home brewers.
