Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale
I've spent the last few weeks looking for a story to tell. So tonight I reached in the fridge for inspiration, and I grabbed one of what has recently become one of my tried and true favorites - Dale's Pale Ale from Oskar Blues.
Oskar Blues has turned quite a few heads over the last year or two by doing something most quality brewers would have never dreamed of - putting their highly regarded premium craft brew in a can. So I'm going to do something I haven't done before, and keep this one brief: I'm going to let the brewer tell their own story. The below video is from Oskar Blues, available on their website.
Experience
I first tried Dale's over a year ago at a local bar. Admittedly, my memories of cans brought me back to adolescent nights sipping luke-warm Natty Light under the stars with good friends. The very thought triggers my gag reflex. I was extremely pleased to find this - a rather redeeming use of the can.
Dale's Pale Ale from Oskar Blues Pours orangey amber, completely clear. The beer is brilliantly topped with a voluminous, fluffy, thick cream colored head supported by an intense hoppy, graprefruity aroma. For a Pale Ale this is hop forward- more so than some IPA's, with a nice malt backbone and a great sweet/bitter balance. A piney, resiny bitter finish sticks to the tongue.
Final Thoughts
I'm a believer. I have had this beer time and again, and it is always tasty, always consistent. Dale's Pale Ale is fresh, flavorful, bold and beautiful; a no brainer when it comes to hauling a 12 pack to a barbeque, party - or better yet - your own fridge.
Naysayers may scoff at the can, but I've lobbied for its worth since first sip. The gamble on the can paid off in both form and function, ultimately a huge success for this Colorado brewer. Viva la revolution!
