NY Brew Supply’s copper immersion wort chiller is designed to quickly bring your beer from a boil to a proper temperature for fermentation. This is an important process in brewing, and this immersion chiller makes it very easy.

Copper Immersion Wort Chiller: General Features

copper immersion wort chiller by NY Brew SupplyThe super efficient copper immersion chiller is exactly what it sounds like. It will quickly bring your wort out of a boil and into cooler temperatures within minutes. It does this by running cool water from a faucet or spigot through the wort and out an exit hose.

The hollow copper coils that immerse into the beer are attached to rubber hosing. This hosing can be easily connected to most laundry and kitchen sinks as well as your outdoor spigot. This is made easy by the standard garden hose fittings.

As the water runs from the faucet and through the coils, it cools down the wort. You can set the rate at which the wort is cooled by adjusting the water temperature as well as increasing the rate at which the water is flowing.

After the water has run through the copper coils, it exits through another rubber hose at the end/bottom of the coils. Since you have water running out the end of the hose, you will need to find a large bucket or sink for the water to run into. Another option would be to cool the wort outside so that you can allow the water to run into the ground.

The whole process takes only about 15 – 30 minutes depending on how many gallons you are trying to cool. You can typically cool about 5 or 6 gallons in about 15 – 20 minutes.

Any Shortfalls?

Bucket of cleaning productsWith immersion wort chillers, there isn’t a whole lot to it. There are only about two parts. The copper tubing and the rubber hoses. The rubber hoses are attached to the copper component by metal clamps. These clamps can bend and wear out over time. This may cause leaks to occur. However, you can easily replace the clamps with new units from your local hardware store.

It can also be difficult to clean. To sanitize it you can place it in a bucket with some Star San or a pot of boiling water. Once immersed you will have to scrub the coils until they come clean. The can be tedious because you have to make sure to get between all of the coils leaving nothing behind.

The only other thing is the water that runs through the coils ends up going to waste. If you can figure out a way to recycle the water that would be best.

These issues are very miniscule. If you’re looking for more great product options, make sure to check out this page here: 52brews.com/top-5-wort-chillers

Immersion Wort Chiller Review: Is it Worth It?

tickThis is really a great wort chiller. These types of immersion chillers are efficient and easy to use. They will last a long time, and you won’t waste time waiting for your wort to cool.

I wouldn’t worry about the leaking because that can be fixed with simple adjustments. And if you really want to make sure you aren’t going to have an issue, pick up some food-safe sealer and put some on the copper coils before you set the clamps.

The copper immersion chiller is just as good as any other, and you will be thrilled that you made the purchase. Sanitize after every use, and it will always be ready to go as soon as you need it.
